Fine Tuning

1950, oil/canvas, 20" x 24"

What happens inside our electronic marvels? An incarcerated genie goes to work! Standing on a magic carpet, he turns the knob of a variable capacitor attached to a primitive vacuum tube and conscientiously varies the distance between the fine tuning discs. The axis of one disc rests on the rotor shaft of the variable condenser whose knob is controlled by two light beams from infinity. The other disc's axis goes through a clearance hole in the shield of an intermediate frequency transformer and establishes inductive coupling with coils that have been expelled from the housing shield -- for fine tuning. Any questions?
